Stylist competition winners visit Almyra in Paphos
Prize winners John and Sharon won our exclusive five night ‘Discover & Unwind’ holiday at the Almyra Spa in Paphos, in a competition hosted by Stylist.co.uk! We are very jealous of their amazing trip...
What were your first impressions of the resort?
First impressions of the resort were of a quiet tranquil town in a beautiful location with plenty of modern and historical sites all merged into one. It did not feel like an area where you would have a boozy holiday but would be more suitable for couples and young families.
The hotel was brilliant. When we walked in we realised we were in an amazing place. The staff were so friendly and helped us in with our luggage. The room was huge and had a wonderful sea view. We only had breakfast in the hotel but the food was excellent. Continental or British was available. Any queries or issues and the staff were only too happy to help.
The grounds of the hotels were massive with a children’s playground, tennis court, pool and plenty of surroundings to walk about in. The sun loungers also looked out onto the sea which was lovely.
What do you think makes the resort so special?
The scenery was amazing. The sea views from the hotel were incredible. The harbour had a distinct quality to it with a beautiful historical fort plus the archaeological site next to the harbour combined the modern day living with the historical past of the resort.
The ambience of the area also made it really special. There were people from all walks of life and all nationalities. Young families, Expats, Couples, people in their golden years were all enjoying the resort.
What was your favourite treatment?
We only had one treatment which was an all over body massage for both of us. The masseuses were incredible and really made us feel very relaxed. It was very tranquil. We could have fallen asleep after the treatment as we were feeling so relaxed.
What was your favourite activity?
The jeep safari was amazing; the guide was very funny and informative at the same time. One word of warning though is that you are off road for a long part of the safari and it can be a very bumpy ride. Almost like a roller coaster. We visited numerous places like the turtle beach, Aphrodite’s bay, went for lunch in a fishing village and finally a winery. We really enjoyed the day and would recommend it to anybody that visits Paphos.
How was the food?
We never had a bad meal in Paphos. We visited a couple of restaurants on the harbour. We had sea bass which was freshly caught and was delicious. Also tried a lot of Cypriot food especially the meat Mezedes and really loved the variations of the different meat dishes. Prices were very reasonable as well and the restaurant owners were very welcoming.
What was your favourite aspect of the resort?
The favourite aspect of the resort was a very simple thing. Waking up in our hotel room and looking out to the sea. We loved walking along the pathway beside the sea.
Who would you recommend the resort to?
I would recommend the resort to couples or families with young children. If you want a relaxing break in a resort that is not too busy then Paphos is definitely the place to go!
