What are the benefits of learning to meditate on a wellness holiday?

What are the benefits of learning to meditate on a wellness holiday?

Meditation or mindfulness as it is also known, are ways of tuning into your body, letting go of the constant chatter from the busy world around you and finding some peace and inner calm. Do you know that it's now considered a serious form of treatment by the NHS for depression, heart disease and diabetes?

It's described as a 'mental state achieved by focussing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts and bodily sensations; used as a therapeutic technique'.

A spa break with meditation included will teach you to calm your mind, banish anxiety and focus on the present. By slowing your racing mind, you will have a chance to look at things with a new perspective and better control your emotions.

Learning how to meditate whilst you are away is ideal as not only will you have expert 'tuition' from a meditation teacher or master, you will alos have the time to practise what you have learnt so that by the time you return home, you will feel comfortable continuing your practice alone or joining a local class.

There are different types of meditation techniques from Zen to Taoist and it is usually combined with yoga and breath work. Including it in your wellness programme will give you the opportunity to properly explore what works for you. The benefits are immense and include combating stress, reducing biological ageing, mood boosting, improving memory, improving sleep, reducing heart disease, helping PMS and helping with addictions.
