Our Wellbeing specialist, Lisa paid a visit to Grayshott Medical Spa in Surrey and reports on her findings.
What were your first impressions of the spa?
I was struck by the actual building as it’s a historic country house with creepers growing over it. Seemingly it was once the home of the Victorian Poet Laureate, Lord Alfred Tennyson.
What do you think makes Grayshott Medical Spa special?
The rural setting is lovely as it’s just an hour outside central London but it feels like a world away. There’s greenery everywhere with acres of gardens and woods. The adjoining 700 acres are National Trust land so preserved for their outstanding natural beauty.
What was your most relaxing experience?
Probably sitting in the bar area with a hot drink looking out onto the greenery. I went in the spring so it felt nice to be warm and cosy inside whilst taking in the gardens and birds outside. It all felt so peaceful and calming.
How was the food?
I thoroughly enjoyed it – there was plenty of choice on the buffet and I thought the color-coded plate for lunch was a genius idea as it really helps you to chose the right portions of food (red to show you how much protein to have on your plate, green to show how much salad or vegetables etc).
What was your favourite activity?
The personal training although it was tough! I was really put through my paces and can honestly say that I was twice as hard as if I had been doing it myself. But I guess that’s the point of a professional making you move your body? I picked up some good training tips so it was worth the aching muscles.
What else did you discover?
There’s an in-house nutritionist so you can book an appointment for advice on diet, vitamins etc and you can also have a dietary plan created to follow at home.
Who would you recommend Grayshott Medical Spa to?
I would recommend it to anyone looking for a short break without airport hassle or anyone in need of a little pick-me-up.
