What is TAIM?
Traditional Arabic and Islamic Medicine is a holistic wellness approach rooted in Avicenna’s Canon of Medicine, combining ancient Islamic healing with modern science to support physical, emotional, and spiritual health through balanced movement, mindfulness, diet, and rest. The foundation of TAIM is based on the "Canon of Medicine," a medical encyclopedia written in 1025 by the Persian polymath Avicenna (Ibn Sina). This work has significantly influenced the development of TAIM, incorporating elements from Greek, Persian, Indian, Unani, and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Does it differ from other ancient health principles like Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine?
The concept of the four humors is a central part of ancient and medieval medicine, especially in systems like Greek, Roman, Unani, and some aspects of Traditional Arabic and Islamic Medicine. This theory proposes that human health and temperament are governed by four bodily fluids, or “humors,” each associated with specific qualities and elements. These humors need to be in balance for optimal health, and an imbalance is believed to lead to illness or changes in temperament. This is similar to the 5 elements of Chinese Medicine and the 4 Doshas of Ayurveda. .
