Overview hotel
Aleenta Retreat Chiang Mai is tucked away on the peaceful outskirts of the city, right near the heart of Thailand’s cultural and spiritual scene. Built around a beautifully restored 100-year-old golden teak wood villa, the retreat blends old-world charm with serene, soulful energy. With ancient Buddhist temples nearby, it’s not unusual to hear the gentle ring of temple bells or the calming chants of monks in the distance—it’s all part of the magic.
When to go
November to February is the best time to visit with comfortable temperatures and low rain fall. Hottest months are from March to May. Peak monsoon season is spanning from June to September.
What we love
- Upon arrival, guests are greeted by the 'Retreat Master' who may perform a traditional Lanna (Northern Thai) welcome blessing or a personalised palm reading to initiate their journey
- Integration of local monastic practices - guests can partake in meditation at nearby monasteries or even silent retreats in partnership with local temples for a truly immersive experience
- A must-try local healing experience is a Tok Sen massage - a Northern Thai technique using rhythmic tapping with a wooden hammer to release energy blocks.
Who should go
- The setting here is more introspective, perfect for spiritual seekers and solo travellers
- Culture vultures will be in their element, with Chiang Mai – right on the retreat’s doorstep – widely considered the cultural and spiritual heart of Thailand.
- Anyone looking for smaller but luxury retreat to unwind and rejuvenate
