For many years, I believed I simply had a naturally tight body. I normalised all the stiffness I was feeling — the lack of flexibility, the sense of unease in my own skin. I put it down to “that’s just how I’m built” and sought temporary relief through massages.
On wellness holidays, I couldn’t wait for my daily massage. By the end of a retreat, my body felt more open and relaxed. But of course, once I returned home, the benefits faded. The years of poor posture, hunching over my computer, and joints stiff from lack of movement would quickly undo the progress.
It was only during a stay at Kamalaya Wellness Sanctuary a couple of years ago that I experienced a real awakening. I had gone with the intention of detoxing, shifting a few kilos, and relaxing. But in my consultation with the naturopath, it became clear that my body tension was the real issue. Together, we shifted the focus to their Structural Revival programme — designed to realign the body, improve posture, reduce tension, and restore vitality.
I had practiced yoga for over 20 years, and while it helped with stress and flexibility, the programme at Kamalaya took things to another level. The myofascial release treatments were life-changing, and the physiotherapists and expert trainers introduced me to the Pilates Reformer, explaining the structural changes my body needed after years of sitting, stress, and poor desk posture.
This was a turning point. On my return, I completely changed my approach to exercise and, more importantly, how I move in everyday life. The result? A body that feels at ease. I no longer wake up with debilitating neck pain, something that used to sap my energy and even cloud my mind. I’d tried countless pillows to solve it, but the truth was the root cause ran much deeper.
I doubt I’m alone in this. So many people with desk jobs suffer from similar stiffness and misalignment without realising it. That’s why I now recommend health retreats with targeted physiotherapy or realignment programmes. These programmes don’t just mask the symptoms with temporary relief — they address the underlying causes, helping you build strength, restore posture, and reclaim ease in your body.
And as I’ve discovered first-hand: an easeful body creates an easeful mind. It really is a win all around.
