Cryotherapy
With all the research now about how cold exposure has a big impact on physical and mental health, Cryotherapy has made its way on to many a health spa menu. A cryotherapy treatment can have many benefits including pain relief, treating migraines, reducing inflammation, aiding with weight loss and may even help prevent dementia and cancer. That’s quite a long list of benefits but how do we do it? In many spas they have a type of chamber that you enter with temperatures between -85 to -110 degrees Celsius for a short amount of time (up to 4 minutes) and you are supervised during this time by a member of staff. You get the most benefit with repeated number of sessions with three to five in a week being the most effective.
Hyperbaric Oxygen chambers
A hyperbaric oxygen chamber is a cubicle or enclosure where you breathe in oxygen levels that are above normal atmospheric pressure. It sounds daunting but essentially you just sit or lie down and breathe air that has oxygen levels of up to 100%. Oxygen levels in the air we usually breathe are about 20% only. The underlying principle is that as we age, or if we have been ill or injured, the processes and efficiency of our cells are compromised. By increasing the amount of oxygen in our bodies it can help them work more efficiently. This is why many health spa retreats have invested in this equipment as it could be an integral component to healing. The benefits of this type of treatment are slowing down the ageing process. Studies have shown that treatments can increase our telomere length, which is a bio marker of ageing. Other benefits include unsurprisingly increased immunity, wound healing and chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Vitamin IVs
Vitamin IVs, also known as intravenous vitamin therapy, are a medical treatment that delivers a high dose of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients directly into the bloodstream through an IV drip. These have become popular at many health spas because of their quick and effective results. The exact formulation of the vitamin IV can vary depending on the provider and the individual's specific needs, but typically includes vitamins such as vitamin C, B vitamins, and minerals like magnesium and zinc.
People use vitamin IVs for a variety of reasons, but the most common reasons include boosting immune function: Some people believe that high doses of vitamin C delivered via a vitamin IV can help improve immune function and reduce the severity of certain illnesses.
Increasing energy and reducing fatigue: Vitamin IVs may help people who experience chronic fatigue or low energy levels. B vitamins, for example, are known to help convert food into energy, so receiving a high dose of these vitamins through an IV could potentially help increase energy levels.
Replenishing nutrient deficiencies: In some cases, people with certain nutrient deficiencies, such as iron or magnesium, may benefit from receiving these nutrients via a vitamin IV rather than relying solely on oral supplements.
Supporting athletic performance and recovery: Some athletes and fitness enthusiasts use vitamin IVs as a way to support their training and recovery. For example, a high dose of magnesium may help reduce muscle soreness and inflammation after a workout.
