Whether you're heading off on a detox escape or you’re simply getting away for some rest and relaxation, here are our most commonly asked questions and top tips. More specific information about your hotel can be found on your ‘Know Before You Go’ guide which will be emailed to you directly. And if we’ve missed anything or you’ve got a specific question, please do not hesitate to ask us!
There are a few simple changes that you can make before you travel. We recommend making these changes one week before your departure date as they will help make your wellbeing holiday as stress-free and effective as possible.
Try to adjust your diet to remove stimulates such as caffeine, alcohol, refined sugars, saturated fats and processed foods one week before you travel. This is especially needed if you are doing a detox or weight-loss health programme.
Change your sleeping pattern to that of your destination to avoid jet lag when you arrive. If you’re travelling East, go to bed one hour earlier and if you’re travelling West, go to bed one hour later than usual.
We will have sent you any pre-arrival questionnaires that are required from your retreat. Please complete and return them as soon as possible so everything can be scheduled ahead of your arrival.
Instead of rushing at the last minute to get work finished before you depart, set yourself deadlines ahead of time so you can wind-down and prepare for your spa holiday. This includes packing a few days ahead of your departure in case there are any last-minute bits you have forgotten.
Depending on where you are, you can either wear a robe to the spa or your normal clothes and then change on arrival. The spa will supply either a sarong or loose pyjamas for you to change into depending on what type of treatment you are having as well as disposable paper pants to wear underneath.
It's recommended to leave the oil to continue to sink into your skin and prolong the benefit so the best things to do is to put on a robe then shower or bath much later. However, if you have to head off to do another activity, then of course it's fine to wash it off.
It's best to double check at the spa reception but generally you go naked or with a small towel in Austrian, German and Italian saunas whilst in other European countries, you need to wear swimwear.
Absolutely not. No matter what programme you are on (even a detox or weight-loss programme), you will be eating a healthy, balanced diet (or drinking broths or juices) with the right amount of nutrients and calories to sustain you throughout the day.
Some of our destinations have a 'sharing' table which anyone can join if they fancy being sociable. You don't need to be invited - you just sit down and chat away to fellow guests. It's a nice touch if you like mingling and finding out what everyone else is doing.
A yoga holiday is for anyone! There are usually classes for different levels of ability and the yoga teacher will ensure that you only do as much as is comfortable for you. Sometimes classes have different levels of people all together but again, you just 'work' to your ability and the teacher will ensure that you do not strain yourself or perform any moves that are too advanced for your current level. Breathing is an important part of yoga so that can be taught to all levels of attendees at the same time. Remember that yoga isn't a competition, it's more important to go at your own speed.
Yes you can usually - just give us a call and we can help you further in liaison with the spa at your destination (note there may be an additional fee to pay depending on what you would like to change in your treatments). You can contact us any time with any queries although do speak to the onsite team if you have any immediate queries as they will be only too pleased to help you.
It is very common to leave a tip for services used and enjoyed. Service charge is usually included in the UK, but often staff in different countries depend on tips to boost their salary. Our advice is to be generous as the gesture will no doubt be appreciated.
Have a chat with the hotel reception as they will be able to give you up-to-date local advice and maps. They can also book local excursions for you too.
