About Ananda in the Himalayas

Perched in the Himalayan foothills near Rishikesh, the birthplace of yoga, Ananda is a sanctuary for mind, body and soul. It’s part of a 100-acre palace estate, with views of the Ganges and surrounding emerald forests, and it combines timeless Indian traditions with modern luxury.

The Ananda Wellness Centre is huge and offers more than 80 treatments alongside daily Hatha yoga, meditation and personalised Ayurvedic programmes. Guests can enjoy outdoor activities, too, including reflective mountain walks and energising fitness sessions, and choose from from emotional and health-focused retreats.

The hotel’s 78 rooms and suites have calming interiors, private balconies and indulgent touches like four-poster beds and marble bathrooms. Culinary experiences come courtesy of acclaimed chef, Sandeep Biswas, with menus that blend Indian, Asian and European flavours using only the finest locally sourced organic produce.

Just so you know, children under 14 are not permitted to maintain the peaceful atmosphere. Spa facilities and therapies are available exclusively to guests aged 18 and above.

Ananda in the press: find out why You magazine's Sarah Stacey hailed the retreat as 'genuinely life-changing'.

Wellness at Ananda in the Himalayas

The Ananda Wellness Centre spans 2,500 square feet, and has a lengthy menu of more than 80 treatments. Daily activities focus on the ancient disciplines of Hatha yoga and meditation, while Ayurvedic therapies support the balance of mind, body and spirit. Programmes are personalised to meet your individual needs, and designed to focus on everything from fertility and menstrual health to holistic detox. The Vedanta talks on ancient Indian philosophy and the fundamental questions of life are, in particular, not to be missed.

The spa has 24 treatment rooms, comprehensive hydrotherapy facilities, a steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi, Kneipp foot bath, outdoor swimming pool and a state-of-the-art gym.

What’s on the menu?

Your stay begins with a wellness consultation to determine your personal dosha (your Ayurvedic body type), so every meal can be tailored to your needs and health goals. Even the tea you’re offered is blended to suit your constitution.

While Ayurveda anchors the retreat’s philosophy, the food isn’t limited to Indian dishes – there’s also a selection of international cuisine, all prepared with Ayurvedic principles in mind. Meals are all waiter-service, and the menu is around 95% organic, with herbs gathered daily from the on-site garden.

In the evenings, a sharing table is available for anyone who’d like to chat with other guests over dinner.
