Set within seven acres of tropical gardens and opening directly onto a peaceful dusting of sand, it’s a luxury resort that feels discreet, restorative and wonderfully removed from everyday life.

Wellness at Chiva-Som Health Resort

Chiva-Som is a pioneer in wellness travel – the kind of place that feels like it invented the idea of a retreat. Treatments take place in the beautifully designed spa, a calm, restorative space where guests are promised personalised attention.

You can choose between two types of stay: Discover Chiva-Som, which includes healthy meals, a daily spa treatment and full access to classes and facilities (ideal for guests without a specific wellness goal), or one of the tailored retreats. These are built around six core modalities: spa, holistic health, fitness, nutrition, aesthetic beauty (non-invasive) and physiotherapy. A dedicated consultant creates your programme and guides you throughout. 

Facilities include extensive treatment rooms, a sauna, Jacuzzi, steam room, an 80-square-metre indoor pool, Watsu pool, ocean-facing outdoor pool, Kneipp path and serene relaxation areas. In 2024, a hyperbaric chamber and epigenetic testing were added to the offering.

There’s also a state-of-the-art gym with spaces for stretching, dance, yoga and Reformer Pilates, plus a full schedule of daily classes.

What’s on the menu?

Meals at Chiva-Som are both healthy and delicious, with fresh, seasonal produce – much of it grown in the organic garden – playing a starring role. The resort has two restaurants and a tea lounge, and in-room mini bars are stocked with healthy snacks and teas.

Dietary plans are personalised following a consultation with the on-site nutritionist, with low calorie, low carb and gut health options. Around 90% of food is halal and prepared on-site.

Chiva-Som’s main restaurant offers fine dining, either indoors or on the terrace. Portions are calorie-controlled to support your wellness goals. Book early for dinner.

Your accommodation at Chiva-Som Health Resort

The resort features 54 rooms and suites, each designed to feel peaceful and private. Interiors include teakwood floors, soft lighting and a natural palette, and every room comes with a private balcony or terrace overlooking the gardens, pool or ocean.

Ocean Rooms and Suites sit within the low-rise main building and face the sunrise, while the Thai Pavilions are tucked among the tropical gardens for a more secluded feel. Thoughtful touches elevate the experience – from your choice of room fragrance and bathroom amenities to customised pillows and linens.

LOCATION

Chiva-Som is tucked among tropical gardens in Hua Hin. Once a peaceful fishing village, it changed in the 1920s when the Thai royal family built summer palaces along its shores. Today, it’s one of the most sought-after beachfront destinations in the Prachuap Khiri Khan province, thanks to its rich culture and history, and sleepy coastal charm.

Phraya Nakhon Cave, one of Thailand’s most spectacular caves, is a 45-minute drive away, while Khao Takiab – home to a striking Buddha statue overlooking the coast – is just 15 minutes by car.

Bangkok Airport is a two-and-half-hour drive from the resort.


WHEN TO GO

The summer season is March to June when temperatures can easily reach up to 35 degrees. July to August is usually when you can expect some rainfall, but this only lasts for 1-2 hours per day with bright sunshine in-between.

I had wanted to travel to Chivasom for 15 years, but every year decided not to go because of the cost. However, I wanted to live life without regret so finally made the decision and went for my birthday solo in March. Chivasom was an amazing place. I was extremely stressed before I left and Chivasom provided a haven to exercise in the morning and pamper myself in the afternoon. There was quite a bit to choose from for exercise and pampering treatments. The pool was gorgeous as well as it overlooked the ocean. The two restaurants also provided plenty of choice. The room was amazing and the decision to have a room on the ground floor next to the spa was a good one. Chivasom also left me a bunch of roses and a card for my birthday, organised a birthday cake (which I shared with other Australians I had met there) and a musician to play happy birthday. It was a really nice and memorable night. The only negative was that on the last day of my one week holiday there they said I didn't have a return transfer. I raced back to my room and provided the evidence to them and they still said that it wasn't enough. They then asked me to contact wellbeing escapes and to sort it out. I was not impressed and there was considerable communication regarding this to the point that I cancelled my schedule of facial treatments at Niranda Spa as I was supposed to be flying out that day and I still didn't know what was going on so I waited in my room. They did not seem to believe that it was their problem, but rather that I should short it out, which put a considerable downer on my great holiday. I ended up contacting Wellbeing Escapes and sorting it out, and Anuska was amazing in sorting the issue out quickly with Chivasom and I was returned safely back to the airport.
