Two years ago, Katie founded the Hayo’u Method, translating the remarkable but complex wisdom of Chinese medicine into simple self-care techniques for a modern Western world.
Katie’s aim is to empower individuals with the tools to self-heal. To make people realise that they can take responsibility for their own wellbeing. To help them stay well and reduce the burden on our NHS.
During lockdown, Katie has been holding increasingly popular daily qigong live feed sessions on Instagram. Qigong is a fundamental pillar of Chinese medicine. It is classed as a form of internal exercise; i.e. a simple fusion of slow, considered movements with breath, sound and intention. Qigong is, quite simply, the ultimate self-healing technique. By learning to generate and manipulate qi (life energy) around the body, you can achieve incredibly powerful results. Multiple studies have demonstrated qigong’s ability to rejuvenate and energise, lower the heart rate and blood pressure and support the immune system, to aid sleep, anxiety and improve bone health and cognitive function. Qigong boosts your oxygen uptake and circulation, but while your body is relaxed. This builds your capacity to store and generate your reserves of qi. This a hugely pleasurable form of fitness, and because it’s so gentle and accessible, it’s also perfect for older people, those recovering from illness and anyone else with physical or energetic limitations.
