Overview
Palacio Estoril has a plum spot on Portugal’s upscale Estoril coast, just metres from a sandy beach. Serving up glamour by the bucketload, its grand 1930s exterior leads into a marble cloaked lobby with high ceilings and sparkling chandeliers. Over the years, this landmark hotel has welcomed a revolving door of A-listers, from European royalty to Hollywood starlets like Grace Kelly. It even nabbed a starring role in the James Bond flick, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
The hotel is home to Europe’s only Banyan Tree Spa – an award-winning sanctuary for the senses, featuring hydrotherapy pools, a hammam, Turkish bath, steam rooms, and holistic and medical treatments. Outside, there’s another pool surrounded by comfy loungers and gardens of fuchsia bougainvillea.
Dining runs the full spectrum from casual to formal. Expect light meals on the garden-facing terrace and Portuguese and international gourmet cuisine at Grill Four Season. The stylish, wood-panelled Bar Estoril, meanwhile, is perfect for an evening aperitif.
Just so you know, families are welcome at Palacio Estoril, but the Wellness Centre is for adults only.

What’s on the menu
Location
UNESCO-listed Sintra and the seaside town of Cascais are also within easy reach, while Lisbon Airport is around 30 minutes away by car. There’s a direct train from Lisbon to Estoril, too – the station is right opposite the hotel.
