The newest addition to the COMO collection is a 12th-century castle nestled among Tuscany’s rolling hills. With Renaissance frescoes and vaulted ceilings throughout, the fairytale estate overlooks immaculate gardens, vineyards and olive groves. At its heart is the COMO Shambhala Retreat, known for its world-class, Eastern-inspired therapies.
If you’re after a taste of la dolce vita, you’re in the right place. The latest addition to the COMO collection is a 12th-century castle set in the rolling hills of Chianti. All Renaissance frescoes, vaulted ceilings, and serene, design-led interiors, it’s a fairytale estate with a storybook location to match – you’ll look out over manicured gardens, vineyards and olive groves.
Unsurprisingly, dining is a real highlight here. Guests can choose from Michelin-starred La Torre, relaxed La Taverna and al fresco Pavilion. But the estate centrepiece is the COMO Shambhala Retreat, which specialises in Eastern-inspired therapies, restorative rituals, yoga and expert-led wellness programmes. For relaxing in the sunshine, meanwhile, there’s an outdoor pool with a countryside view.
Want to explore? The retreat hires out Vespas and vintage Fiat 500s so you can zip around the hillsides like a true local. It’s an easy 40-minute drive to magical Florence, too.
Families are welcome here, but the minimum age for the spa is 16.
A COMO hotel wouldn’t be complete without the signature COMO Shambhala Retreat. This elegant, cocooning sanctuary offers a range of spa treatments and therapies including massages, yoga and non-surgical Guinot facials. The treatments help to tone, detoxify and revitalise the body while providing a relaxing experience with hands-on healing.
The spa has seven serene treatment rooms, an ice fountain, sauna, aromatic steam room, relaxation lounge, and a heated indoor pool. Beyond the spa, guests can enjoy the heated 25-metre outdoor pool, a fully equipped gym, yoga and Pilates studio, outdoor fitness area, and padel and tennis courts.
COMO Castello Del Nero has 50 rooms and suites, ranging from elegant entry-level options to expansive premium suites. Created by Paola Navone, the interiors are airy and calming, with marble bathrooms, cool tones and contemporary touches that complement the estate’s historic character. Lots have sweeping views of the surrounding hills and lakes.
A city tax of €4 per person, per night applies for the first four nights of your stay, payable at the resort. Under 14s go free.
The retreat is at the heart of a historic 740-acre estate, made up of gardens, vineyards and olive groves. Florence and Siena are within driving distance, so you’ve got easy access to some of the world’s best art galleries, pizza and pasta, and designer shopping.
The closest airport is Florence, around 40 minutes’ drive away. Alternatively, you can fly into Pisa – an hour and 15-minute drive from the resort.
