Our Habitas Bacalar sits on the lake of the same name, nestled between the glossy greens of the Mayan jungle and the swirly blues of a dazzling lagoon. The water is said to show off seven different shades, inspiring the name of the on-site restaurant, Siete – an open-air spot serving nourishing, farm-to-table dishes made using local ingredients.
Sustainability is at the heart of life here. From cocktails to spa treatments, many ingredients are sourced from the retreat’s botanical garden or local. As for the rooms, they’re housed in A-framed, thatched-roof sanctuaries known as palapas, built using zero-impact materials and with toiletries infused with honey from the on-site hut.
Along with indulgent spa treatments carried out at the rustic wellness centre, there’s a host of immersive wellbeing activities to choose from, from yoga and meditation to sound healing, art therapy, and water-based pursuits on the lagoon. If you’re after something more tailored, the team can create bespoke programmes, which combine therapies, movement and mindful local experiences.
This is an adults-only hotel, with a minimum age of 16 years.
You’ll find a dedicated open-air wellness centre for treatments and rituals inspired by local traditions, often using natural regional ingredients like cacao, honey and coconut. Daily yoga, breathwork and movement sessions take place overlooking the lagoon, alongside sound healing and meditation experiences to help you properly switch off.
Chetumal Airport is 20 minutes away (domestic flights operate from Mexico City). Tulum International Airport transfers take around three hours, while Cancun Airport can be reached in four.
