Just like the name suggests, Habitas refers to its properties as ‘homes’, rather than hotels. About Our Habitas Bacalar

Our Habitas Bacalar sits on the lake of the same name, nestled between the glossy greens of the Mayan jungle and the swirly blues of a dazzling lagoon. The water is said to show off seven different shades, inspiring the name of the on-site restaurant, Siete – an open-air spot serving nourishing, farm-to-table dishes made using local ingredients.

Sustainability is at the heart of life here. From cocktails to spa treatments, many ingredients are sourced from the retreat’s botanical garden or local. As for the rooms, they’re housed in A-framed, thatched-roof sanctuaries known as palapas, built using zero-impact materials and with toiletries infused with honey from the on-site hut.

Along with indulgent spa treatments carried out at the rustic wellness centre, there’s a host of immersive wellbeing activities to choose from, from yoga and meditation to sound healing, art therapy, and water-based pursuits on the lagoon. If you’re after something more tailored, the team can create bespoke programmes, which combine therapies, movement and mindful local experiences.

This is an adults-only hotel, with a minimum age of 16 years.

Wellness at Our Habitas Bacalar

Habitas likens its wellness offering to ‘Luxury for the Soul’, with the aim of helping guests connect deeply to themselves, nature and one another. For those wanting something more personalised, tailored wellness journeys can be arranged, combining treatments, movement and mindful practices built around the retreat’s signature pillars – Fitness, Mind & Body, Music, Art & Culture, and Offsite Adventures. Days might involve sunrise paddle boarding and restorative yoga followed by salsa dancing, with excursions to ancient ruins and local nature hotspots in between.

You’ll find a dedicated open-air wellness centre for treatments and rituals inspired by local traditions, often using natural regional ingredients like cacao, honey and coconut. Daily yoga, breathwork and movement sessions take place overlooking the lagoon, alongside sound healing and meditation experiences to help you properly switch off.

What’s on the menu?

Dining at Our Habitas Bacalar follows a ‘food is medicine’ philosophy, with menus inspired by the ingredients and cooking traditions of the Yucatán. Fresh local produce plays a starring role and includes just-caught fish and plenty of vegetables for plant-based dishes. Meals are designed to be shared and enjoyed slowly, whether you’re dining by the lagoon or under the trees. There’s a strong focus on wellbeing without ever feeling restrictive, and the bar serves up fresh juices, herbal infusions and well-balanced cocktails using local spirits.

Your accommodation at Our Habitas Bacalar

There are 34 rooms or ‘palapas’ here, with A-frame thatched rooftops and canvas walls that have zero impact on the environment. Interiors are pared back with a luxe edge - light and airy with warm woods and rugs in authentic prints. All rooms were built using zero-impact materials and with toiletries infused with honey from the on-site hut.
