Six Senses Douro Valley has a historic manor house setting within a beautifully restored 19th-century wine estate. Located in Portugal’s UNESCO-listed Douro Valley, it's surrounded by terraced vineyards and spectacular River Douro views – a great base for exploring one of Europe’s most celebrated wine regions.
As with all Six Senses properties, there’s a showstopping spa with sleek interiors and a great line-up of facilities and treatments, including a thermal hydrotherapy circuit and indoor and outdoor pools. There are two more pools nestled among the landscaped grounds, plus four Jacuzzis.
The daily programme of workshops and activities ranges from cookery classes to tree climbing and creative ceramic painting, not to mention wine-based pursuits such as traditional grape stomping. And when you’ve worked up an appetite, you can tuck into fresh, regional flavours and sip on superb reds, whites and rosés from local vineyards.
Families are welcome at Six Senses Douro Valley. There’s no kids’ club, but activities and dining options are designed with younger guests in mind.
In true Six Senses style, the luxe spa delivers quality, pampering treatments in a calm, restorative environment.
Interiors are designed with ecologically friendly materials like wood and stone, reinforcing the hotel’s connection to its natural surroundings. Treatments range from locally inspired grape-based therapies using herbs and fruits from the Douro Valley, to Six Senses’ signature rituals. Even dogs are catered for, with select spa treatments available for four-legged guests staying at the hotel.
The spa facilities include a heated indoor pool with a hydrotherapy circuit targeting the legs, lumbar and neck areas, alongside underwater LED chromotherapy and sound therapy. The circuit is completed by a cold plunge pool (five degrees) and a heated vitality pool (38 degrees), designed to support circulation and encourage deep relaxation. There are also 10 treatment rooms, an outdoor 25-metre lap pool, an aerial yoga studio and a state-of-the-art gym.
Tailored programmes focus on the likes of sleep, female health, yoga and fitness, with an expert team on hand to guide guests throughout.
