Nestled in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, Kateka is an intimate boutique safari lodge with just five suites and a villa with private pools. It's just the place for immersive wildlife encounters and holistic wellness experiences in a spectacular natural setting.
Wildlife aside, four wellness pillars guide stays here – self-care, nutrition, sleep and relaxation, and play-explore-movement. Along with animal encounters in the reserve, your days might include yoga and meditation, art therapy, or sound baths, not to mention unwinding in the dedicated wellness centre. Here, you’ll find a well-equipped gym, infrared Himalayan salt sauna, heated jacuzzi and rooftop yoga deck.
The lodge itself is designed for comfort and connection, with intimate suites with private pools, a boutique, and multiple dining settings – from bush breakfasts on the deck to starlit dinners under the stars or in the intimate wine cellar. And with just six accommodation units on-site, you’re guaranteed plenty of peace and quiet.
Families with children are welcome at Kateka. While there’s no kids’ club or childcare, the private villa accommodates guests of all ages. Just so you know, the wellness centre is for adults only.
Kateka’s wellness offering is shaped by four pillars – self-care, nutrition, sleep and relaxation, and play-explore-movement. Together, they create a holistic experience where wellness is seamlessly woven into every aspect of your stay. Guests can enjoy yoga, meditation, and art therapy, alongside immersive experiences in the reserve – morning and evening game drives, immersive bush walks, and scenic helicopter flights.
Klaserie Private Nature Reserve is known for its low number of safari vehicles, and Kateka follows a 'slow safari' philosophy, giving you time to pause, observe and fully experience the wilderness at your own pace. Led by expert guides and trackers, you’ll encounter Africa’s iconic wildlife in its natural, untouched habitat.
The state-of-the-art wellness centre includes space for soothing treatments, an infrared Himalayan salt sauna to support detox and circulation, an ice bath for recovery and circulation, a Jacuzzi for post-safari unwinding and a gym with functional training equipment and panoramic bush views. There’s also a rooftop yoga deck, relaxation lounge, zen garden, and hair styling services.
Some classes are complimentary, some chargeable.
Kateka sits within the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, a 16-hectare wilderness that’s part of the Greater Kruger National Park.
To get here, you can fly from Johannesburg to Eastgate or Hoedspruit (around 50 minutes), then continue by road or helicopter straight to the lodge. Alternatively, it’s a scenic six-hour drive from Johannesburg.
