Relaxing comes easy here, thanks to a 47-metre infinity pool and nourishing spa treatments based on ancient Ayurvedic traditions. For those wanting to up the ante, the resort can arrange snorkelling, fishing, surfing and excursions to nearby national parks and temples.
Dining-wise, the focus is on local and international flavours, with fresh seafood from local waters and colourful produce from the island.
Just so you know, children are welcome at the resort, although we wouldn’t recommend it for really little ones. There’s no kids’ club, but older children (12 and over) will enjoy the beach and outdoor activities.
Amanwella’s spa is designed for complete restoration, in earshot of the Indian Ocean waves and the rustle of coconut palms. Treatments draw on Sri Lanka’s rich botanicals, using local herbs, plants and flowers, and therapists tailor each session to your needs. Inspired by Ayurvedic principles, the menu includes traditional warm-oil therapies, all of which can be enjoyed in your suite – either indoors or in your private courtyard.
Wellness facilities include dedicated treatment rooms, and an open-air yoga shala on the beach.
Private yoga or personal training sessions can be arranged, either on the beach or in the privacy of your room. Each session is adjusted to suit your goals, experience and pace, and guided meditation is available for those looking for a deeper sense of calm. For something extra special, ask about private guided meditation with a local monk. This can be arranged in your suite, on the beach, at nearby temples, or at a local Buddhist centre.
Amanwella has three types of suites, all of which are sleek and modern, with spacious areas for sleeping, relaxing and bathing that can be opened or closed off with tall sliding panels. Each suite extends outdoors to a private terrace and courtyard, where seating areas and plunge pools make the most of the surrounding views. Depending on the location, you’ll look out over the beach, the ocean or a swaying coconut grove. For extra indulgence ask the team about in-room spa treatments.
Several of Sri Lanka’s big attractions are within reach, including Udawalawe National Park, Bundala Bird Sanctuary, tea plantations, ancient temples and sacred cave sites, making it an ideal base for both relaxation and exploration. Colombo International Airport is a two-hour and 45-minute drive away.
