Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle is a luxury, family friendly resort nestled among 22 acres of palm trees on Sri Lanka’s south coast – a peaceful spot for anyone looking to unwind in a tropical setting. It’s also a great base if you want to explore the island, but honestly, there’s so much to enjoy here you’d be forgiven for staying put.
Relax on the golden sandy beach, lounge by the pool with a fresh coconut, or enjoy an authentic Ayurvedic treatment in the resort’s peaceful spa. You can also try yoga on the beach, learn to surf, take a guided nature walk, or watch baby turtles make their way to the sea. Little ones and teens have their own dedicated club and activities. Food lovers can sample local dishes in the restaurants or join a cooking class. And no matter what you do, the Indian Ocean provides a spectacular backdrop.
Just so you know, the ocean here can be on the lively side. It’s beautiful and dramatic to watch, but not always ideal for swimming.
The award-winning Anantara Spa has been recognised by big names like Condé Nast Traveller. Its philosophy is rooted in Thai heritage but infused with ancient Ayurvedic wisdom and modern-day practices. Guests can meet with the in-house Ayurvedic doctor for a personalised consultation, discover their dosha (individual make-up) and explore tailored ways to support their wellbeing. Alongside a generous menu of Ayurvedic therapies, the spa offers Anantara’s signature treatments, massages, facials and body rituals, all using indigenous herbs and spices.
Spa facilities include dedicated Ayurvedic, reflexology and facial treatment rooms, calming relaxation areas and a beauty salon. Fitness enthusiasts have their own well-equipped centre, and private classes can be arranged on request. There’s also a dedicated yoga and meditation pavilion, tennis and badminton courts, and a 25-metre lap pool nestled in the grounds.
The hotel runs scheduled nature wellness walks with the resident Nature Guru – a 90-minute wander through the area’s rich biodiversity, with longer walks outside the resort available.
Just so you know, a minimum stay of five nights is required between 27 December and 5 January, and checkout is not permitted on 31 December.
The transfer time by car from Colombo International Airport is around two-and-a-half hours. Alternatively, you can fly into Mattala International Airport, which is just one hour 15 minutes from the resort.
