About Hotel Botanico & The Oriental Spa Garden

A member of the Leading Hotels of the World, Hotel Botanico & The Oriental Spa Garden is a five-star retreat cloaked in subtropical gardens in the Orotava Valley area of Puerto de la Cruz. There’s a shuttle bus to the town centre and its black-sand beach, but it’s an easy walk if you’d rather admire the lush surroundings on foot.

With majestic Mount Teide on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other, the views here are impressive. The interiors are worth a mention, too, combining glossy floors with contemporary artworks and colonial-era flourishes.

You’ll find two swimming pools among the palm trees – one just for little ones – neighboured by a sea of chic red parasols. The showstopper of a spa is built around its own botanical garden, with two more pools, a series of rooms for around-the-world treatments, and a host of immersive relaxation spaces that have earned it international acclaim. Elsewhere, there are four à la carte restaurants for light bites and gourmet dining, with menus that include Spanish and Asian fare.

Hotel Botanico welcomes guests of all ages, but The Oriental Spa is reserved for those aged 16 and over. A kids’ club operates for ages four to 15 during school holidays, and babysitting services are available at an additional cost.

Programmes focus on general wellbeing or fitness, but you can also experience the jewel of Hotel Botanico – the Oriental Spa Garden as part of a standalone hotel stay. Recognised by Condé Nast as one of Europe and the Mediterranean’s best hotel spas, it spans 3,500 square metres, with individual care and attention at the heart of every experience. 

Treatments draw from global traditions, so you’ll find Ayurvedic, Thai, Japanese, Hawaiian, and Polynesian therapies on the menu. For al fresco relaxation, book a massage in the open-air pagoda, accompanied by the birdsong from the surrounding gardens.

The spa’s extensive facilities include 20 treatment rooms, an indoor heated pool, outdoor pool with underwater jets, Japanese sauna, Turkish bath, laconium (dry heat sauna), aromatherapy room scented with lavender oil, ice temple, whirlpool, experience showers, a relaxation zone with water beds, and a volcanic cave with a Jacuzzi. There’s a fully equipped gym, tennis courts and an 18-hole putting green, too.

What’s on the menu?

There are four specialty restaurants to choose from here, including Spanish, Italian and Asian-inspired eateries (the latter was opened by Queen Sirikit of Thailand in 1996). The Hall bar, meanwhile, is ideal for morning coffees and light snacks, transforming in the evening with live music and expertly mixed cocktails. Guests booking half board in advance can enjoy their evening meal at the Italian, Oriental or Spanish restaurants.

Healthy options are available throughout, and menus can be tailored to individual dietary needs in consultation with the chef at La Parrilla or Il Pappagallo.

The Oriental
In the heart of the gardens, this open-air restaurant is for leisurely breakfasts and light snacks. Open from 7.3am to 4.30pm, with breakfast served until 10.30am.

La Parilla
A Spanish restaurant serving dinner, with a menu centred on the catch of the day, quality meats, and vegetables from the hotel’s own allotment. Closed on Thursdays and Fridays.

II Pappagallo
Known as one of Tenerife’s finest Italian restaurants, Il Pappagallo serves classic Italian cuisine in the evening. Open for dinner only and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

LOCATION

Hotel Botanico & The Oriental Spa Garden is in a subtropical park in a peaceful area of Puerto de la Cruz, with Mount Teide on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other.

The hotel is home to its own private botanical garden and lake, with the celebrated gardens of the Orotava Valley close by. Puerto de la Cruz town centre and its black lava beach are around one-and-a-half kilometres away, easily reached on foot or via the hotel’s handy shuttle service. Golf, diving and watersports are all popular activities locally, along with hikes up the mountain for panoramic island views. Other day trip options include the cosmopolitan capital, Santa Cruz (35-minute drive) and the UNESCO-listed La Laguna (around 25).

Tenerife North Airport is just 20 minutes away, and Tenerife South Airport transfers take around 45 minutes.
