Absolute Sanctuary is a boutique wellness retreat on Koh Samui, offering pioneering programmes built around the likes of Pilates, yoga, detox and holistic wellbeing. Cloaked in tropical gardens near pristine beaches, it’s a compact resort that combines expert guidance, mindful movement and nourishing cuisine for complete transformation.
One of Thailand’s leading wellness retreats, Absolute Sanctuary is on a peaceful hillside on the north-east coast of Koh Samui, minutes from Choeng Mon and Chaweng’s pristine sandy stretches. Unlike a lot of the island’s busy beach hotels, this is a laid-back boutique resort with a tranquil feel. It’s got a lovely look and feel, too, with candy-pink walls, contemporary neon-lit signs and tropical gardens.
Wellness is woven into the rhythm here. Programmes combine movement, nutrition, therapy and education, led by a highly qualified team of naturopaths, nutritionists, fitness trainers and holistic practitioners who work together to support lasting change. Mornings might start with Pilates or yoga overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, followed by nourishing, nutrient-rich plates at The Love Kitchen. Along with dedicated spaces for fitness, detox and spa treatments, you’ll find a sleek infinity pool haloed by palm trees. There’s a shuttle bus to the beach when you want a change of scene.
Absolute Sanctuary welcomes children over 12. Yoga classes can be attended by those from 13, most wellness programmes from 16, and detox retreats from 18.
Pilates is a real focus here, with an excellent Reformer Pilates studio and specialist programmes led by experienced instructors. Yoga, fitness and mindful movement are part of the daily itinerary, with group classes and aqua sessions included and refreshed weekly. Prefer to move at your own pace? You’ll find a yoga mat waiting in your room.
Other facilities include a dedicated detox centre with colon hydrotherapy, indoor and outdoor spa treatment rooms, two yoga studios, a fitness centre, FAR infrared sauna and steam room, plus an outdoor infinity pool.
A minimum of two guests are needed for yoga, Pilates and fitness classes to run.
38 rooms are spread across five two-storey buildings on a lush hillside, with modern interiors and soothing blue and grey tones.
Koh Samui Airport is conveniently located 15 minutes from the resort, with frequent daily flights from Bangkok taking one hour.
