The UK’s first purpose-built, eco-friendly wellness destination, Glass House Retreat combines world-class facilities with personalised programmes – not to mention contemporary good looks. No wonder it’s caught the attention of Condé Nast Traveller and wellbeing guru, Wim Hof, who’s hosted his renowned retreats on-site.
Glass House Retreat is the UK’s first purpose-built, eco-friendly wellness destination. Just 30 minutes from London, it’s a contemporary, adults-only sanctuary nestled in seven acres of Essex countryside. Cold water wellness enthusiast, Wim Hof, has hosted his renowned retreats here. And it was listed in Condé Nast Traveller’s top 10 wellness retreats for 2025.
Guests benefit from a personalised wellness experience here, with energising fitness classes, guided workshops and nourishing, clean cuisine. Facilities include indoor and outdoor pools, a sleek Elemis spa, a top-tier gym and even a cryotherapy chamber.
With a warm and welcoming atmosphere, Glass House is ideal for solo travellers looking for connection – or anyone in need of a restorative break.
And just so you know, this retreat is adults only.
Wellness is at the heart of everything at Glass House Retreat, where the philosophy is to help you lead a healthier, more balanced life. Stays range from two to 21 nights, and each includes a spa credit and cryotherapy session – a cutting-edge sub-zero temperature treatment that soothes muscular injuries, supports weight management, and boosts overall wellbeing.
Group fitness classes cater to all levels, and range from yoga and Pilates to cardio sessions and morning walks, while outdoor bootcamps offer a more energetic option.
Along with the cryochamber, the slick Elemis spa has a heated swimming pool, fitness studio, fully equipped gym, salt block and Finnish saunas, plus a relaxation lounge, eight treatment rooms, and a wellness dome for mindfulness sessions and talks. There's also a natural outdoor pond for swimming.
Glass House Retreat has 21 rooms in total, with Premier and Superior options and a few accessible rooms for those with limited mobility. All are stylish, modern and comfortable, and done out in soothing blue and grey tones. Lots have a countryside view, and all come with a digital detox safe if you want to lock your phone away during your stay.
You’ll find the Glass House Retreat in Bulphan, Essex, tucked away among seven acres of countryside less than an hour’s drive from London.
The nearest train station is West Horndon, a five-minute drive away. It takes around 30 minutes to get here from London Fenchurch Street, but taxis are limited so we’d recommend booking in advance. Alternatively, catch the train to Upminster – it’s a little further but taxis are readily available, and it’s got good Overground and Underground links.
