Each person is born with a unique combination of doshas, and this natural balance is responsible for the physical, mental and emotional differences between person to person. By identifying and maintaining individual balance, Ayurveda helps to create the state of ideal health.

Representing AIR and SPACE, Vata governs movement in the body, the activities of the nervous system and the process of elimination. Vatas have thin, light frames and excellent adaptability. Their energy comes in bursts, and they are likely to experience sudden bouts of fatigue. Vatas typically have dry skin and cold hands and feet. They sleep lightly and their digestion can be sensitive. When imbalanced, it manifests in the body as constipation, arthritis, weakness, restlessness, aches and pains. Emotionally, Vatas love excitement and new experiences. They are quick to anger but also to forgive, they are energetic, creative, and flexible. They also take initiative and are lively conversationalists. When imbalanced, they are prone to worry, anxiousness, nervousness and often suffer from insomnia.
Representing FIRE and WATER, Pitta controls digestion, metabolism, and energy production. The primary function of Pitta is transformation. Pittas have strong digestion, warm body temperature; they sleep soundly for short periods of time, abundant energy, and a strong appetite. When imbalanced, Pittas may suffer from skin rashes, burning sensations, peptic ulcers, hormonal imbalances, excessive body heat, heartburn, and indigestion. Emotionally, Pitta’s have a powerful intellect and a strong ability to concentrate. They are good decision makers, teachers, and speakers. They are precise, sharp-witted, direct and often outspoken, ambitious and practical. When imbalanced, Pitta’s can be short-tempered, argumentative and non-co-operative.
Representing WATER and EARTH, Kapha governs the structure of the body. It's the principle that holds the cells together and forms the muscle, fat, bone, and provides immunity. The primary function of Kapha is nourishment. Kapha types have a strong build and excellent stamina, and smooth, radiant skin. They sleep soundly and have regular digestion. But when Kapha builds to excess, weight gain, fluid retention, and allergies manifest in the body. When imbalanced, Kapha types may become overweight, sleep excessively, feel lethargic, and suffer from asthma, diabetes, and depression. Emotionally, Kaphas are naturally calm, thoughtful, and loving. Kaphas are strong, loyal, patient, steady, and supportive. When imbalanced, they tend to hold on to things and becoming excessively attached.
