Spectacular ocean views are a highlight at Sentido Galomar, thanks to its clifftop perch on Madeira’s peaceful north-west coast. The hotel overlooks Garajau – a marine nature reserve that’s popular for underwater exploring. There’s a diving school at the foot of the cliffs.

This is a contemporary, adults-only hotel designed to make the most of the waterfront location. You’ll find a saltwater lido, an outdoor pool that looks out across the Atlantic, a restaurant and bar with floor-to-ceiling windows, and modern rooms with furnished balconies.

Those interested in authentic Ayurvedic therapies can visit Alpino Atlantico, just a five-minute walk away, for treatments at the Ayurveda Cure Centre. You can also head next door to the sister hotel, Sentido Galosol, to use the fully equipped gym and join the daily fitness classes.

Facilities at the Galomar include three spa treatments rooms, saunas with sea views, a steam room, hammam, Finnish bath, relaxation area and yoga studio.

What’s on the menu?

Food is a highlight here, with a wide choice of international cuisine. Atlantis Restaurant serves fresh fish and seafood and is the venue for buffet breakfasts. The Capoeira Lounge offers light snacks, ice-cream, wine and cocktails, while Pizzeria Galosol specialises in authentic Italian dishes including pizza, pasta and salads. Guests can also visit the neighbouring sister hotel, Galosol, for buffet lunch and dinner.

If you pre-book half board, dinner is served in Ondamar, located in the Galosol hotel just a two-minute walk away.

What our customers say

This is a lovely modern hotel, that had gorgeous views and is adults only. The hotel rooms are quite large and modern, with plenty of power points! I had a view over the pool and the sea, which was lovely. Random bonus points for them - they have actual hand wash and body wash in the showers - many hotels just use bars of soap, which I hate, so that small detail was much appreciated. I was there on a Pilates wellbeing escape wherein I did an hour of Pilates a day. The Pilates takes place in the Galo Active gym, which is in the hotel next door (galomar is adults only and the gym is in Galosol, which is child friendly). Both the trainers I had were well trained and knowledgeable, however, I was quite surprised that I was only given one day to do reformer Pilates, when I thought the entire week would be reformer. I was happy to do mat for one or two days, but it ended as four days out of five as mat, which was disappointing. I don’t end up doing my 5th day which was supposed to be reformer, as it’s actually a bit much to do Pilates 5 days in a row. There’s no room service option, nor was there a coffee machine in my room. The restaurant and breakfast is fine, but nothing to get excited about. I was also put out when I asked reception if they could call me a taxi, and a local young man in a car that was not a taxi picked me up and charged me €35 to go 15 mins into Funchal. I used Bolt after that, and journeys into Funchal cost about €15. It would also be beneficial if they had water stations on each corridor - even though it’s probably perfectly safe, people don’t want to use to the bathroom tap to fill their water bottles. I also wasn’t mad about the spa. I had a few treatments that were fine, but I did have a very expensive pedicure that was supposed to include a foot mask and didn’t - it also went for 10 minutes shorter than the advertised duration. Overall, a “fine” stay.

Hotel was in a lovely location by the coast, where you can enjoy dips in the sea and explore the local area.it was beautifully decorated , rooms were spacious and great facilities. The staff could not of been more helpful, and the choice and quality of the food was delicious. Spa facilities and treatments were excellent and the yoga sessions which were a short walk away were very professional. Galomar resort caters for mainly couples, not for young children.. So relaxing we wish we had stayed longer. Fabulous holiday!!
