BodyHoliday Saint Lucia offers Caribbean sun, water sports galore, a super-swish spa and a great single traveller vibe. Our spa spy Dominika reports back from her stay:
What were your first impressions of the resort?
Saint Lucia is such a stunning place and the resort is set in a wonderful bay at the foot of some hills and surrounded by typically lush Caribbean vegetation. The journey from the airport took about 1.30 hours... but mind you, those road were very winding! The welcome process was very friendly and the check-in was accompanied by a cocktail and then we were taken to our room which was clean, comfortable and spacious – traditional rather than modern and deliberately without a TV - with stunning views of the ocean. Coming from cold and damp London, the sun, sea air and humidity was very welcomed.
What do you think makes Body Holiday Saint Lucia special?
The fact that there is so much to do so you can pack your schedule with all kinds of different fitness and watersports. Activities run from 7am to 6pm and there is so much to do...sometimes I felt that the day is not long enough! However no one will push you to do these activities so it's perfect if you are looking for a chilled holiday too. I settled into my daily routine very quickly which included a fitness activity, snorkelling, relaxing spa treatment and some quality beach time. And ending the day watching the sunset with a drink.
What was your favourite treatment?
A treatment is included every day (not on arrival and departure day). You can select from a spa menu including massages, facials, scrubs, wraps and more. I quickly got used to the daily massages which worked well to ease the aches and strains from all the activities. My favourite treatment was a facial which left me glowing (my boyfriend said....). The spa is set up the hill from the main resort and is a peaceful place to unwind.
How was the food?
The food was delicious and a good variety of options meant that you could always have something different. There are 3 restaurants and a deli serving fresh salads and sandwiches with attached juice bar and coffee shop. Food was clearly labelled so you could make your choices which I loved as I could carry on with my healthy eating lifestyle on my holiday too. There was a Caribbean buffet one night and beach BBQ too which was probably my favourite night.
What was your favourite activity?
All the activities were excellent with knowledgeable, enthusiastic instructors making fun. There was a daily fitness schedule offering yoga, meditation, stretching, different fitness classes, intro or advanced classes for tennis or water sports. I did try a couple of different classes and loved the swiss ball class, barre and aqua fit. I have to say that after a week I could definitely feel that my muscles were used!
What was your favourite aspect of the resort?
The variety of activities on offer as well as the idyllic setting was great. I loved watching the sunset every evening (sometimes with a nice cocktail in my hand). Also the friendliness of the staff and the fellow guests was a bonus. I can see why a solo traveller would love this place. It is very social offering communal tables and group activities.
Who would you recommend Body Holiday Saint Lucia to?
This resort works well for most people. I certainly met a range of people from couples, to large groups to solo travellers who all enjoyed it. The other thing that stood out was that the vast majority of guests were returning visitors (some who were in double digit visits) – I don't think I have ever been somewhere with such a loyal following and that must say something about the place. I'd recommend Body Holiday to all sorts of travellers - an active couple or friends or singles who wish to have nice beach holiday but don't want to feel awkward.
